Code of Conduct

As members of the IWMA, we represent not only ourselves but also the credibility of the international wine media community. To maintain high standards of professionalism, inclusivity, and integrity, all members agree to the following principles:

Professional Integrity
Represent wines, producers, and regions honestly, without misrepresentation.
Clearly disclose any commercial relationships, sponsorships, or partnerships in line with international standards.
Ensure accuracy and fairness in all published work, whether in print, digital, audio, or video formats.

Respect and Inclusivity
Treat fellow members, industry professionals, and audiences with courtesy and respect.
Support diversity and inclusivity in wine media, welcoming voices from all backgrounds, regions, and perspectives.
Avoid discriminatory, harassing, or exclusionary behaviour in any professional setting.

Transparency and Ethics
Disclose when content results from press trips, complimentary samples, or sponsored opportunities.
Refrain from soliciting free products, trips, or services in exchange for guaranteed coverage.
Maintain independence in editorial judgement, ensuring all opinions are genuine and not unduly influenced.

Responsible Representation of Wine
Encourage the responsible and moderate enjoyment of wine.
Do not promote excessive consumption, unsafe behaviour, or messages that undermine the value of responsible drinking.



Confidentiality and Boundaries
Respect confidentiality when sensitive information is shared within IWMA groups, events, or networks.
Maintain professional boundaries in all collaborative, mentoring, or educational roles.

Use of IWMA Name and Branding
Only use the IWMA name, logo, or membership badge in the appropriate context.
Do not imply official endorsement by the IWMA unless permission has been granted.

Social Media and Public Conduct
Ensure that professional standards extend to online and public communications.
Refrain from posting defamatory, inflammatory, or offensive content that could harm the reputation of the IWMA or its members.

Collaboration and Community
Contribute positively to the IWMA network by sharing knowledge, opportunities, and constructive feedback.
Support the growth of the Association and its reputation as a modern, forward-looking organisation.

Accountability
Members who breach this Code of Conduct may be subject to review by the IWMA committee.
Serious or repeated breaches may result in suspension or removal of membership.

By accepting membership in the IWMA, members agree to uphold this Code of Conduct in all professional activities and communications.
