Inclusivity is about making sure every writer has a place at the table, no matter their background or path into wine.

Inclusivity Charter

Inclusivity

Inclusivity for us means more than open language and diverse subject matter. It is about making space for every kind of professional voice in wine. This includes established journalists to digital creators, and ensuring equal access to opportunities regardless of background. We are committed to supporting writers from disadvantaged or underrepresented communities, and to giving neurodiverse writers the same recognition and opportunities as anyone else. The future of wine media should reflect the full range of perspectives that make the industry richer, more relevant, and more human.

IWMA Inclusivity Charter

The International Wine Media Association believes that the stories of wine should be told by a wide range of voices, reflecting the diversity of the people who drink it, make it, and share it.

As part of our commitment to inclusivity, we pledge to:

Recognise professionalism, not prestige
Membership decisions are based on the quality and integrity of work, not where it is published, the size of the audience, or personal connections.

Support emerging and underrepresented voices
We actively encourage applications from writers, journalists, and creators from disadvantaged or underrepresented backgrounds.

Champion neurodiverse talent
We recognise the value that neurodiverse communicators bring to wine media and ensure they have equal access to opportunities.

Ensure fair access to opportunities
Samples, press invites, and trips facilitated through IWMA will be distributed fairly, with attention given to reaching both established and emerging members.

Foster openness in communication
We avoid jargon, keep processes transparent, and make our resources accessible across different formats and devices.

Reflect diversity in wine media
We highlight the work of members across traditional and digital platforms, showcasing a broad spectrum of styles, voices, and perspectives.

Supporting Access Needs
We want everyone to be able to take part and enjoy what we do. If people need information in large print, audio, or another format, our members will do their best to make it available. We’re always happy to chat about access needs so we can make sure everyone feels welcome and included.

The IWMA exists to give credibility to the modern generation of wine writers and creators.
